About the EAP Institute



The Institute was founded by Maurice Quinlan, the current Director, who introduced the concept of Occupational Alcohol Programmes (OAPs) to the European Union and in September 1980 hosted the first seminar on this topic in the Clarence Hotel, Dublin, Ireland. In 1985 he established the first external Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) in Kilkenny, Ireland.



The EAP Institute is a major provider of training related to Workplace Drugs and Alcohol, Employee Behavioural Health and Employee Health & Wellbeing. From its base in Waterford the Institute has provided seminars and training throughout Ireland and other EU Countries. Training assignments have been provided in Scotland, London, Switzerland, Italy and Greece. The Institute also acted as consultants to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Turin Italy, on the prevention and assistance training on drug and alcohol Problems for the countries of India, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the Philippines.



Anita Furlong, BA Counselling & Psychotherapy, is a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist and an accredited Employee Assistance Professional. Anita has worked as EAP Coordinator with The EAP Institute, Waterford for eight years. She also holds a Certificate in Safety, Health and Welfare at Work and Certificate in Human Resource Management. Anita also provides training workshops to Counsellors and Psychotherapists on working with Gender and Sexual Diversity.
