The steering group report on a national substance misuse strategy was launched on 7th February 2012. In 2009 the government decided to include alcohol in a national substance misuse strategy. The report recognises that many employers in both the public and private sectors have alcohol and drug policies in place. The ratification of a National Alcohol Workplace Policy by IBEC and ICTU has yet to be finalised. Currently all public sector employers, and many private sector employers, operate Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs) designed to both identify and help employees who have problems, including alcohol-related issues. There is a need to finalise a National Alcohol Workplace Policy and to further develop programmes such as EAPs.
Since the introduction of the Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 the EAP Institute has been researching and developing a best practice training manual on workplace drugs and alcohol which incorporates the requirements outlined by the information sheet published by the Health and Safety Authority in September 2011. This seminar will outline policy development, risk assessments, training for managers and employee intoxicant testing.
Speakers on the Dublin Seminar will include:
? Maurice Quinlan, Director of the EAP Institute.
? Paul Hoover, EAP and Behavioural Health Consultant, Aviation Industry.
? Gary McCutcheon, Operations Manager, Randox Testing Services.
Speakers on the Athlone Seminar will include:

? Catherine O ?Loan, Business Development Executive, Randox Testing Services.
