All Company Vehicle Drivers now Subject to New Roadside Impairment Testing for Drugs
New measures to test all drivers, including those who drive company vehicles, came into force on Thursday 27th November 2014. The Road Traffic Act (3) 2014 will allow Gardai to conduct 5 impairment tests, which would include a Pupil Dilation Test, Modified Romberg Balance Test, Walk and Turn Test, One Leg Stand and also a Finger to Nose Test. Drivers who fail impairment tests may be arrested and subject to additional tests to determine the presence of intoxicants in the driver, and those who fail the tests will be subject to prosecution.
