Developing a structured approach to workplace mental and physical health
The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) produced guidance for businesses on how they can design robust systems to manage the risk of mental and physical health issues.
It highlights that companies which utilize mental health first aid should only have it as part of a wider system of support.
IOSH is urging its members to think prevention, safety, compliance, risk assessment, guidance, and Employee Support Therapy (EST) and calls for a structured approach to address the many issues surrounding workplace mental health.
In 2021 the global standard of ISO/FDIS 45003 was published. This is the first international standard to provide guidance on psychological health and safety at work. The new standard will address many safety risks that can contribute to work-related stress, depression and anxiety and adversely impact worker mental health.
